Time does not heal all wounds. Best friends Jessica and Sam each have scars from their pasts that have never quite healed. Jessica has never been able to get passed an extremely damaging romantic relationship from her formative years in college, while Sam has been ignoring a painfully fractured relationship with her sister. After years of denial, they are both forced to confront these wounds head on. The only way they can begin to heal is to face what they didn't want to see - and they cannot do that without each other.
Scar Tissue initially began as one scene to be used for an acting reel. It continued to grow from scene, to one act, and now to full length play.
Scar Tissue had its first informal table read of the second draft at Florida Studio Theatre in August of 2016. Match: Lit Theatre Company chose Scar Tissue to be the first staged reading for a new series: ‘New Words in a New Light’. The staged reading was co-sponsored by Playdates At Pete’s in Brooklyn, NY on July 31, 2017.
2018 was a big year for this project. It started with a workshop at Dixon Place as part of their Works-In-Progress series in January. In August, Scar Tissue was presented to the public as a staged reading at Playwright’s Horizons Downtown Blackbox.
2019 is gearing up to be even bigger with Scar Tissue making the jump across the pond! The historic Old Joint Stock Theatre in Birmingham, England will present Scar Tissue as a staged reading for their Open Doors program in March as part of Women’s History Month!
